Sports and Dance
We are tyring to raise well balanced young ladies and what better way to do that then to introduce them to as many activities as possible. For September 21st those activities included hockey...
...and ballet.
Abby and Kera frequently put on Abby's dance clothes. I think it is time that I get Abby back into dance and start Kera!
Pepe and Burrs Come For a Visit, Part 3
My parents arrived back to our house on the evening of Wednesday, September 12th. During the rest of the week my parents were able to do some touring locally but, in the evenings, they were able to spend some quality time with the girls...
...playing in boxes...
...making cookies...
...and just hanging out.
The highlight of the remainder of my parent's visit was our visit to Milburn Apple Orchard for their apple festival...it was also grandparent's weekend so, my parents got in for free. It was a lot of fun with a lot of great activities set-up. Here are some of the highlights...

It was a very fun morning and we came home with some delicious apples.
My parent's visit quickly came to an end, they left on Tuesday, September 18th. We are already looking forward to their next visit for Christmas.
Lunch Bunch!
While my parents were off on their own touring life continued in the Roger's house.
On Tuesday, September 11th, Kera and I took Abby to school. Abby was very excited for school and again, ran into the classroom without telling us goodbye...stinker. After dropping Abby off Kera and I headed to the gym, our normal Tuesday activity. The trouble began when we went to pick Abby up from school.
Kera and I walked into Abby's class room and she was hiding from us. Then when I tried to get her to leave she started having a crying fit. Why the fit? She wanted to stay at school for lunch. I have the ONLY kid that cries when I try to pick her up.
Abby's school has an after class program called Lunch Bunch. At Lunch Bunch they stay at school for an extra hour and get to eat lunch with their school mates and then have some more playtime. We could have initially signed Abby up for Lunch Bunch but we decided not to because it cost more.
Abby could not stay for lunch that Tuesday, I didn't have a lunch for her but, Jim and I agreed that she could start Lunch Bunch the following Thursday. How could we tell her that she couldn't stay at school if she wanted to?

...fishy crackers, watermelon, peanut butter and jelly sandwich (homemade bread and peanut butter), water, and a heart note.
When we picked Abby up from school on Thursday we found a very happy girl. Lunch Bunch is definitely worth the extra $5 a day.

Pepe and Burrs Come for a Visit, Part 2
On Monday, September 10th my parents and I ventured to Winchester, VA to visit some of our old neighbors, Tom and Jody. I had not seen Tom and Jody since I was 13 or 14 years old but, even though it has been decades since I had seen them, I was so excited. They lived next to me parents for several years and made a big impression on my life. Today Tom and Jody live on a beautiful horse farm and Abby and Kera were thrilled the moment they stepped foot on their property.
The first thing we did was visit George, the horse.
Abby loved feeding George carrots and cookies. Kera was a bit more tentative.
Next, it was time for a Abby to take a ride on the tractor....
I am not sure who had more fun Tom or Abby.
Kera was not ready for a tractor ride so, she hung out with Burrs and George.
After a great lunch and some time to run in the grass it was time to do a bit of fishing. Tom and Jody have a small pond on their property so, most of us walked down to the pond while Abby and Tom took the segway.
After a bit of trying...
...Abby finally caught one.
After fishing it was time for the girls and I to head home. We left Pepe and Burrs with Tom and Jody. They spent the night with them and then went off on their own for a bit of touring before returning to us on Wednesday.
The first thing we did was visit George, the horse.

Pepe and Burrs Come For a Visit, part 1
On September 5th my parents came to town. We were all very excited for their 2 week visit. They arrived Wednesday evening so, unfortunately, they missed Abby's first day of school by a day but...they were able to take her to her 2nd day of school.
It was on Abby's 2nd day of school that we got the first real indication that Abby loved school. If you arrive to school early you are asked to wait in the hall way until the classroom door is opened. Once the door is open, students are welcomed in. Well as soon as the door was opened Abby ran into the room without looking back. No goodbyes, no see you later, NOTHING. I am very happy that Abby likes school but a goodbye would be nice.
While Abby was happily in school my parents and I took Kera to storytime. Kera adores the play area at the library especially the rocking horse.
We had planned to go to the park after storytime but unfortunately, it was raining so we had some quality time at the dollar store and Starbucks.
Thursday afternoon we headed to our local park...
...and built wooden cars that we found at the dollar store.
On Friday my dad and Jim had an outing, but before that Burrs, Pepe, the girls and I headed to our local bagel shop for breakfast, YUM!
While Pepe went off with Jim, Burrs, the girls and I headed off to Abby's sports class. In Abby's sports class they try a new sport every week. This week, lacrosse.
On Saturday we all headed into DC to the National Museum of American History. The girls are not the best with museums, their attention span is so short that we can't read a thing but we still had a great time looking at some of the exhibits.
It is a GREAT thing that the museums are free because we were able to step out for lunch and then go back in.
A little bird also joined us for lunch.
Abby's favorite thing at the museum was seeing the actual United States flag that they wrote the Star Spangled Banner about. The Star Spangled Banner is one of Abby's favorite songs right now.
Sunday was my parents 40th wedding anniversary so, what better way to celebrate than, a trip to the zoo! We had been to the National Zoo a few times so, this time, we headed to the Baltimore zoo. I really enjoyed this zoo! The highlights of our tip were Abby got to feed a giraffe...
...and I think we will also remember the very active monkeys.
It was a great morning!

The Day Abby Has Been Waiting For!
On Tuesday, September 4th Abby had her very first day of school. She was SO excited!
It took Jim and I quite some time to find the right preschool for Abby; who knew it was so hard. We wanted to make sure that we found a preschool that felt like a school not a daycare. After quite a few tours we found The Early Learning Center at Glen Mar Methodist Church. The church received a grant to build the learning center so, because of the grant, they school must stay nonsecular. This year Abby will be going to school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Jim was able to go into work late on Tuesday so, we were all able to take Abby to school for her first day.
I have known for a while that Abby was ready for school but, on her first day she really impressed me. My big girl walked into that class room with so much confidence...she gave me a kiss and never looked back!
Kera, on the other hand, was not so happy to see her big sister go. Kera is so used to having her sister with her always that she had a very sad day. We saw quite a few crying fits where Kera was wondering where "Abba" was. I am happy to report, that after a few weeks, Kera and I having a much easier time with Abby's Tuesday/Thursday mornings away.

Cunningham Falls State Park
On Labor Day we headed out to Cunningham Falls State Park in the Catoctin mountains about 1 hour and a half away. We had a nice little hike...
...to a great little waterfall.

The girls had a lot of fun climbing on the rocks.
After the waterfall we headed to the beautiful lake. Unfortunately, we didn't bring our suits so, we were only able to put our feet in.
Before we left the park the girls had to stop at the play ground.
The girls have NEVER seen a playground that they didn't like.
It was another great family outing!
