Art, Drinks, and Goodbyes

We had a very low key weekend this weekend but, even with low key weekends life still happens!

Saturday was National Chocolate Milk Day! The girls were thrilled with this food holiday and celebrated it by having chocolate milk with breakfast and then again with dinner!

On Saturday (and Sunday) the girls found some time to do some art...

On Saturday and Sunday Jim started creating new Halloween decorations, a coffin and some headstones...pictures coming soon.

On Sunday we said goodbye to our foster dog Bradley. We had him for 2 days shy of a month and it was very hard to see him go. I hope his forever home loves him as much as we did!

Sunday was also National Drink Beer Day...

Ice Skating, Lesson 2

On Monday, Spetember 22nd Abby had her 2nd ice skating lesson....

....it is amazing to see how much more comfortable see was on the ice this time. I look forward to seeing her progression over the next few weeks.

Aspen Trees

On Sunday, September 21st we headed up to Mt. Charleston in search of Aspen trees...Jim was hoping that their leaves were starting change for fall. We found some and they were beautiful!

We hope to go back in a few weeks to find even more fall color! On our way back home we found this guy running down the street...

I had heard that there were a lot of wild horses on Mt Charleston but this was our first encounter. This poor horse was obviously upset though.  I hope he stays safe and finds his herd soon.

Tortoise Update!

On Friday morning (September 19th) Kera and I went to the gym. After the gym I had to quickly run home for something before picking Abby up at school. I drove into the garage and opened my car door and I found a Tortoise right outside my door...if I would have stepped out of my car without looking I would have stepped right on him! If he would have been a foot over I would have rolled right over him! How in the world did he get in the garage? How long had he been there? I picked him up and carried him to the water drain at the end of our street. As I was putting him down the poor scarred guy hissed at me.

I am definitely going to have to be more careful about keeping our garage door closed...I don't want to accidentally be forced to make tortoise soup for dinner!

Spaghetti Dinner

On Tuesday, September 16th there was a spaghetti dinner at Abby's school. The spaghetti dinner was as a way to get families to come down to the school and listen to an introduction about the PTA.. Unfortunately, Jim was sick and unable to join us but, the girls and I still went and had a great time! Plus, we were able to eat a full dinner for $6 (that is including the money we prepaid for Jim's ticket)!

Ice Skating

On Monday, September 15th Abby had her first ice skating lesson. She was a bit tentative but, she still did a great job! Luckily there was a girl there that she new from her last year's ballet class to help her learn the ropes.

The class is 30 minuets long...

...and then they have a 20 minuets free skate.

Abby is already can't wait for her next lesson!

Soccer Day #2

On Saturday, September 13 Kera had her second soccer day and soccer pictures.

First, team pictures...

Then, time for practice...

I am happy to report that Kera seems to really enjoy her soccer days and looks forward to them all week.

Yummy Yucky

Abby half reading half reciting the book Yummy Yucky to Jim and Kera.

Rain!

On Monday, September 8th we had a bit of rain and the girls were very excited!

You can tell that there girls do not see much rain. I can't blame them though....I love playing in the rain too.

Abby's School Pictures

The Wednesday after Labor Day Abby had her school pictures AND we already got them back!

Here is Abby's kindergarten picture:

It is amazing how much she has changed in such a short time! A fun way to see the changes by looking at her previous years of school pictures...

Kera's Soccer Debut

On Saturday, September 6th Kera started her very first season of soccer. She was very excited! When we were watching the world cup this year she kept on saying that she was going to play that and, the day finally arrived.

She was especially excited about her uniform...

..and so was I; she has the same number I had when I played. I might have asked for that jersey number for her...if it was not available I would not have been upset but, I am happy it was.

The soccer season began with a league wide opening ceremony. An opening ceremony is fun in theory but, not so much in practice. All of the teams involved in the league parade onto the field and participate in the beginning of the soccer season BUT...they line the players up by age, little kids first, so it took a LONG time! By the time all teams had paraded in the little kids were getting quite anxious plus, even though it was at 8 in the morning, it was HOT! It did have some nice moments though...

As a general rule I really don't like when balloons are released into the sky but, I it was fun for the kids and at least we don't live by any water.

Another good thing about being involved in the opening ceremony...free mile and donuts!

We had about 2 hours between the opening ceremony and Kera's soccer practice so we ran home for a bit before heading back to the field.

Watching Kera on the field was so much fun and she was having fun too.

When soccer was over she asked when she could do it again! I hope she has a very fun season!
